Intro to Double Bevel Marquetry w/ Dr. Bob

Marquetry is the art of applying pieces of veneer to a structure to form decorative patterns, designs or pictures. The technique may be applied to case furniture or even seat furniture, to decorative small objects with smooth, venerable surfaces or to freestanding pictorial panels appreciated in their own right.

Class will teach student various techniques used to produce beautiful designs in wood, suitable for framing or for incorporation as an artistic element into other design projects.  The techniques, know collectively as “marquetry”, are centuries old, but with the availability of modern tools such as the scroll saw, are now within the reach of all woodworkers.  The class will concentrate on the double-bevel marquetry technique, which has been used by European and American craftsmen for nearly 4 centuries.  In addition, however, the class will demonstrate a variety of other techniques for both marquetry and inlay design.  Students will finish the class with a several completed design.
