Finishing 103: Introduction to Spot Repair

Repair Kit

Class Description

Everyone is welcome. You do not have to take 101 or 102 classes for this class.

A one day introductory class on the art of spot repairing damage to wooden objects and their coatings.

Spot repairing has a wide range of different types of damages. The damage may be located just in the coating or may have penetrated into the wood. Nicks, dents, small scratches, white water marks are examples of minor damages. Missing small pieces of wood such as veneer loss and larger damages such as gouges caused by pets are more challenging. Different materials and different levels of skill are required to match the level of damage.

Mitch will start with the basics and then show you more complex repairs using the tools and materials required to complete the task.

This class will be in a lecture/demonstration format with limited hands on due to the complex nature of the topics being covered. You’re welcome to bring in a small example of what you might need to fix yourself. With time permitting, Mitch can discuss tactics and strategies to help you resolve the repair.
