Making Wooden Toys Using a Drill Press is a one day workshop designed to give children between the ages of 8 – 11 years, a beginning foundation in woodworking techniques, specifically the drill press, which is a great tool for children to learn to use safely. In this workshop, children will receive instruction on using the drill press and will complete two toys: Climb the Mountain and Tic- Tac- Toe Board.
One parent is expected to stay with their child throughout the class.

Students will predominantly use hand tools for safe construction with the exception of the drill press and battery powered hand drills and both manual and plug-in random orbital Festool sanders. All power tool preparation of materials will be done outside of class time to ensure safety of students. Tools used in class include: hammer, drill, screwdriver, drill press, pull and coping saws, ruler, tape measure, pliers, clamps, smoothing plane, sandpaper.

Students will learn a variety of skills, including: cutting wood, gluing & clamping, measuring, painting, sequencing-assembly, drilling & screwing, sanding, color-matching, hammering, following plans, hand-eye coordination & dexterity, modulation of effort/force, visualization from start to finish when making their wooden games.
