In Kumiko 101, you will learn the basics of the ancient Japanese art of Kumiko as it is applied to the building of a multi-squared, two patterned, 12″ x 12″ wall hanging while using only hand tools. Over the course of the class, you will learn to cut lap joints to form the grid that holds the Kumiko design and how to use a Japanese chisel and pull saw to precisely cut the angles for each individual piece. At the end of the class, you will have an understanding of how Kumiko pieces are created and will be able to apply the techniques you learned to your own woodworking projects. When you register, you can purchase a Kumiko kit comprised of 2 Kumiko jigs, a pull saw and 3/4″ and 1/8″ chisel for a reduced price of $125.00 ($140.00 retail, if bought after the class).
