Create a set of two stackable coasters with a simple inlay, using a CNC machine. Over the course of a day, we will teach you the basics of using Vectric software and simple CNC operation. You will start by creating a coaster design using Vectric software. Next, you will transfer that design to our Next Wave CNC (a tabletop, home-user-friendly machine) and cut all parts required. Finally, you will glue and finish your coasters.

Topics covered in this class include:

  • Using vector software to create your design (image importing, manipulating vectors and producing toolpaths for machining)
  • Basic CNC operation
  • Using a CNC with a straight bit to cut inlay shapes and to create pocket cuts in your workpiece
  • Estimating CNC run time
  • Consumer CNC machine options and machine anatomy
